• I regularly present my personal story at conferences and how social media has shaped After Breast Cancer Diagnosis and the abcd exercise retreats I have created for patients.
  • I attend European conferences like ESMO – European Society of Medical Oncology in Europe and ABC (Advanced Breast Cancer) Lisbon.
  • METUP UK – METUP in USA was created by Beth Caldwell and Jenny Grimes. I saw the need for a group for advocacy in the UK – it’s an advocacy group aiming to turn metastatic (secondary) breast cancer (MBC) into a chronic illness and support MBC patients – see our Twitter and Facebook pages for further information.
  • MacMillan – In 2016 I joined the Breast Pathway Board for Greater Manchester as a Patient Representative for secondary breast cancer
  • Greater Manchester Cancer User Involvement – I am a part of the User Involvement for Breast Cancer patients so that they can work in partnership with cancer professionals.
  • ECMC – Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre in Manchester – I am the patient representative on the steering committee for this research committee for early stage clinical trials.
  • Prevent Breast Cancer (formerly The Genesis) – I have presented at their CCC (Cross Cultural Conference) and attended their Asian Breast Cancer conferences aswell as being a peer support at the Patient to Patient Support Initiative – PaPSI
  • The Christie – Blogged and also attend their Secondary Breast Cancer day event that my CNS created to support patients.  Occasionally involved in Patient Representative Groups in the hospital aswell as the Christie School of Oncology.
  • FACT – Fit After Cancer Treatment – I was involved in their branding and presented at their launch of this great initiative which is in conjunction with Greater Sport (Greater Manchester)
  • #Oldhamhour – this is a twitter chat (every Monday 9-10pm) for local businesses which was created by two local business friends – Lee Hollingsworth, Jude Gidney and myself.
  • Users & Carers at Salford University –  I was involved in student learning where I have spoken to groups of trainee nurses about my own story so that they can learn from my experience of being patient.
  • Salford University – WoMMeN (Word of Mouth Mammography e Network) I contributed as a patients advocate to this initiative for women who are going  to have a mammogram for the first time or subsequent times.  Their web site gives answers and support to ladies.  This project completed in 2017.
  • I set up a local Saddleworth face to face cancer group with Cancer Warriors charity due to the closure of the cancer support network (cancer CAFE back in 2016). It is held every 3rd Tuesday of the Month at Scona Cafe in Uppermill.
